Hydrometer and Refractometer

Hydrometers and Refractometers

The measurement of density and salinity has been a cornerstone of marine aquaristics since the early reef setups. Historically performed with mechanical hydrometers, this practice has evolved towards increasingly precise tools to ensure a faithful reproduction of natural conditions.

Hydrometers and refractometers allow for reliable monitoring of the salt concentration in seawater and brackish water, an essential parameter for the health of fish, invertebrates, and corals. Optical models offer quick and reliable readings, while electronic refractometers provide additional convenience with a clear digital display.

Thanks to modern technologies and simple calibration procedures, these instruments are now indispensable tools for rigorous monitoring and lasting stability of marine aquariums.
