Paragobiodon xanthosoma, commonly known as the emerald coral goby, is a fascinating small fish with an intense green coloration. Its fusiform body and discreet behavior make it a unique and appreciated resident in reef aquariums.
A Symbiotic Goby with Seriatopora Corals
This goby lives exclusively within colonies of Seriatopora histrix, a branching coral from which it hardly ever strays. This close association provides it with both shelter and protection. In return, the Paragobiodon xanthosoma cleans the coral and contributes to its ecological balance.
Care Conditions
- Recommended minimum volume: 60 liters
- Temperature: between 24°C and 27°C
- pH: between 8.0 and 8.4
- Decor: mandatory presence of Seriatopora histrix corals
Behavior and Compatibility
The Paragobiodon xanthosoma is a peaceful fish, perfectly suited to life in a reef aquarium. It can be kept alone, in pairs, or in a small group if several colonies of Seriatopora are available. It coexists very well with invertebrates and other small peaceful fish.
